‘I had the time of my life’ Boity on being a contestant on ‘The Masked Singer SA’

Boity was participating in the second season of The Masked Singer, where performed an array of popular songs.


Media personality Boity Thulo expressed her joy of being on The Masked Singer South Africa TV show this after being unmasked as Butterfly.

“I had the time of my life as Butterfly on The Masked Singer South Africa. So epic to have made it to the Top six,” she wrote in a post on social media.

Boity was participating in the second season of the singing competition, where she as Butterfly, performed an array of songs such as Paint the Town Red by Doja Cat, giving her rendition of Break My Heart by Dua Lipa and Whitney Houston’s How Will I Know.

In three episodes Butterfly lost the face off and was placed in the bottom but was not eliminated, the face off she won was against Mielie, who was revealed to be Bobby van Jaarsveld.

It was during that ninth episode when Butterfly performed Suited by Shekhinha that most viewers became almost certain in was the Wuz Dat? rapper.

“It was sooo much fun watching the judges and everyone including friends and family try to guess who I am!  A lot of you [sic] were spot on! This experience was one for the books!” said Boity.

The competition

The Masked Singer consists of a judges’ detective panel of four that include Mi Casa’s J Something, Somizi Mhlongo, DJ and singer Sithelo Shozi and Skhumba Hlophe who try and guess the identities of the singing celebrities behind the masks.

Each week, the TV show hosted by award winning comic Mpho Popps, sees audiences and the detectives try to solve the mystery of the masked singers.

 Last week Dineo Ranaka was eliminated from the show when it came out she was Diamond.  

The season started out with 16 celebrities and there are only five remaining; Owl, Gold, Giraffe, BoomBox and Blue Crane.

The second season has had an array of media personalities; from LaConco (Star) to Dricus du Plessis (Wildebeeste).

The show airs Saturday evening on SABC 3 and the repeats on SABC 1 Thursday night.
