Hulisani helps the youth decide

Former YOTV presenter Hulisani Ravele was recently named the ambassador for a new campaign called 'You Decide', which aims to teach the youth about the importance of making good choices.

Speaking to the Sunday Sun, Ravele said she feels very passionate about her role as ambassador for this new crusade against alcohol and drug abuse amongst South Africa’s youngsters, because she feels it’s a very important issue.

She said: “I am very honoured and excited to be the ambassador for a campaign that aims to improve the lives of young people in South Africa.

“You Decide will involve more than just talking about alcohol and drugs. We will provide the youth with tools that they can use in their lives.

The television and radio presenter further explained why drinking at a young age is a problem, saying: “Half of all South African teenagers drink alcohol regularly or occasionally. It’s important to make them realise the impact the decisions they make today have on their future.

“When you’re in your teens you are still developing, physically and mentally. Abusing substances at such a critical age has a huge impact on how you make decisions. Those decisions affect what happens later in your life.

“Studies show that pupils who drink alcohol or take drugs are more likely to fail at school. It also increases their feeling of hopelessness.

“Young people need to realise the importance of running their own race and being their own person.”
