Goldfish excited for Joburg Day 2021 and possible return to SA

At long last, 947’s Huawei Joburg Day 2021 concert is returning and this year’s event will be held at Kyalami Grand Prix Centre in Midrand this Friday.

After going virtual in 2020 and earlier this year, the music event will be going hybrid for this edition – online and in-person.

This year’s lineup includes Goldfish, Matthew Mole, Prince Kaybee, Nasty C, Shekhinah and DBN Gogo

To meet Covid-19 protocols, a limited number of listeners will experience the event in person as VIPs.

For the first time, Huawei Joburg Day will be a mix of fashion, design, entertainment and music. 947 listeners have a chance to showcase their creativity in fashion, sneaker design, radio presenting and music in an intensive on-air talent search. The winners in all categories will share the stage on the day with the top-class lineup.

Goldfish, consisting of Dominic Peters and David Poole, hasn’t been back in South Africa since 2019 and they will perform their set virtually from San Diego, California.

“[We are] working on new music and enjoy spending consecutive nights in our own beds! Glad that things are looking positive for the future as I think everyone is ready to feel the music again.”

Goldfish added that they have familiarised themselves with virtual sets, without crowds, “but what is incredible is that we can now play to anyone, anywhere in the world. The possibilities of where this could go with VR [virtual reality] are exciting”.

So what has the popular electronic DJ duo been up to in California?

“Thanks to the vaccines rolling out in [the] USA from early January we were able to have a very busy summer in San Diego with over 30 shows including our last show at Red Rocks in Colorado which is just an incredible place! Other than shows we have been surfing, mountain biking and braaiing as much as possible along with perfecting our homemade biltong game.”

The duo from Cape Town hasn’t forgotten about their home country and if everything goes to plan, they will have special shows for December and January.

Huawei Joburg Day with 947 is on Friday, 22 October. The hybrid event can be experienced for free on 947.co.za and listened to live on 947.
