Generations’ Maggie’s headache continues

The actress is accused of allegedly stealing a packet of Panado tablets worth R17.45 in December 2013 at Checkers in Cresta Mall, Johannesburg.

Benedict appeared to be quite jovial despite yet another postponement at the State’s request. The State wanted to remand the matter to later in April as investigations have opened again with the investigating officer collecting further statements.

Benedict’s attorney Jonathan Kaiser said that the written representations that they submitted in February had not been answered and were still pending. Kaiser submitted their version of events and also requested the matter get struck off the roll.

Kaiser said the next plan of action would be to get the matter struck from the role as the State has yet to present a case.

“The State must provide answers. If they don’t, I will put it to the court to strike the matter from the role,” said Kaiser.

The case has been postponed several times before due to technical issues of video footage as well time constraint problems.

Benedict, dressed in jeans, a black jacket and sporting a new braided hairstyle was transferred from one court to another, because of the pending postponement.

The actress released a statement earlier in February categorically denying she committed the crime. She suggested the case was being pursued not on a matter of evidence, but because she is a celebrity.

Benedict who plays Akhona in the popular SABC 1 soapie will appear in Randburg Magistrates court again on 4 April.
