Bafana Mlangeni, famously known as ‘Sibeko’, played the role of a drunkard in the vernacular comedy show. He used to be a spy for the security head in Room 8, where all the main characters stayed. The main characters were: Mofokeng from Qwaqwa, Chirwali the Malawian, Tshawe – “as far as I’m concerned”, the Transkeian, Mkhize, and inyanga Magubane.
According to a report by the Daily Sun, the actor died on Saturday at Bheki Mlangeni Hospital in Jabulani, Soweto.
He is survived by two boys, three girls and his wife. The cause of his death is unknown but according to the report, he died from a diabetes related illness.
Mlangeni’s death comes after the death of Soul Brothers lead singer David Masondo. Masondo, 67, died at Johannesburg’s Garden City Hospital – where he had been admitted after complaining of exhaustion. He was buried on Sunday in Hammersdale, west of Durban.
Mlangeni was 48 years old.
According to the report, Bafana’s funeral service will be held at the Dobsonville Community Hall on Saturday. More information regarding his memorial service will be released in due course.
