Better known as DJ Sbu, Leope has been a presenter on YFM, Ukhozi FM, and Metro FM, and also hosted reality television competition Dance Your Butt Off and game show Friends Like These.
He is, however, also known as a passionate philanthropist with a very hands-on approach to improving the educational opportunities of South African youngsters. As the founder of the non-profit organisation, Sbusiso Leope Education Foundation (SLEF), he gives regular talks at disadvantaged schools around the country, offers mentorship, and also provides bursaries.
Of the Person of the Year Award, Bizcommunity explains that it should ideally go to an “individual who, for better or worse, has had the most influence on events of the year gone by”.
DJ Sbu co-owns the TS Records label and there are many who suspect that he is award-winning, masked kwaito artist Mzekezeke.
