DJ Sbu in hot water again

First the DJ was embroiled in a row with Forbes magazine for re-tweeting a fake cover with his picture and his MoFaya energy drink – the same drink that got him suspended from his radio job after he punted it at the Metro Awards.

Last week DJ Sbu was accused of using an SABS logo on his MoFaya drink without approval. The department has confirmed it only partners with entities, such as NGOs, that have been registered on its directorate for nonprofit organisations (NPO).

DJ Sbu, whose real name is Sbusiso Leope, runs school feeding schemes in Gauteng with the department through his Sbusiso Leope Education Foundation (Slef). However, The Citizen yesterday established Slef was not registered on the NPO list.

Leope admits Slef is not registered with the department and has been partnering with the department on feeding schemes. He, however, insists Slef has not derived any financial benefits.

“There was no money exchanged between us. I am not a privileged person. I don’t have any tenders,” said Leope.
