According to City Press, AKA also owes his previous record label, Vth Season at least R650 000.
The report claims that AKA’s former manager, Raphael Benza took the rapper to court over the outstanding amount, which was supposed to be settled by the end of November.
“We have been lenient about the payment due because of their cash flow and Sars challenges, but we cannot wait indefinitely. We would like to wrap up the matter as soon as possible,” said Benza’s lawyers.
AKA’s lawyer, Oupa Baloyi told the paper that the rapper’s previous management was responsible for the money owing to Sars and that it had accumulated over the years.
“He [Benza] created this. As his manager, it was his responsibility to advise him about all financial and tax issues as part of his management duties, in accordance with a management agreement,” Oupa said.
However, Benza slammed the claims saying it was the responsibility of an artist to pay tax on their personal income.
“I advised Kiernan regularly to pay Sars and he told me he was paying,” said Benza.
