It seems the student movement is not impressed with the title and lyrics of Babes Wodumo's new single.

The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) has challenged Bongekile ‘Babes Wodumo’ Simelane to condemn drug abuse following the release of her new single titled Mercedes.
The student movement released a statement on Monday afternoon after listening to the new release in which the young sensation sings about taking over an individual’s senses.
“The title of the song is the same name of the popular drug in Durban and surrounding townships currently. It is a new kind of ecstasy which is popularly know as the “killer drug”, which killed and hospitalised many learners in KwaMashu and other areas earlier this year,” it said.

Though the student movement believes the song is not aimed at encouraging young people to use the drug, it is “concerned” that the musician is well-known and her music loved by many, which might have an effect in “escalating the challenge of drug abuse that our society is currently faced with”.
“The student’s movement is calling on the musician to take responsibility for the negative effects this already loved song may have on young delinquents who are generally still trying to find themselves and are still going through an adolescence stage.
“We are challenging Babes Wodumo to come out boldly to denounce and condemn drug abuse, underage drinking, also irresponsible and unlawful fun. We acknowledge the amount of influence she currently has on young people, and we call on her to do the right thing and also contribute in fighting this pandemic.”

Babes Wodumo recently released this single after the success of her first song that got Mzansi partygoers dancing. Though many loved the song, they said her success would be short-lived and that she was a one-hit wonder.
She, however, is confident she still has more to offer. Well, it seems Mampintsha’s rumoured fiancee has come back with another hit, and as we expected, he has been featured in the song.
