R&B superstar Chris Brown has been let go after he was detained in France for alleged sexual assault. The musician has made it clear that he plans to sue the woman accusing him of rape for defamation.
TMZ announced the rapper was taken in for questioning in Paris. He was released on Tuesday and prosecutors believe there may be holes in the alleged victims’ case as Brown claimed he was never alone in a room with her.
His lawyer, Raphael Chich, said he was free to go as no lawsuits were filed against him for allegedly violently raping the 24-year-old victim.
Brown will be filing a complaint for slanderous denunciation with the public prosecutor of Paris. The musician claimed he was set up and insisted he was playing music off his phone in the suite’s living room with 20 people around him the entire time.
Investigations are ongoing into allegations that Brown met with the woman at a nightclub near Champs-Elysees and agreed to go back to his hotel suite.
The rapper was also questioned over a suspected drug offence, according to a source who detailed the encounter to AFP.
Brown has a history of violence. He was convicted in 2009 for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
A few years later, he was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon after an encounter with the Los Angeles police. A woman had accused him of threatening her. He also pleaded guilty to assaulting a fan in Washington in 2014 and was accused of violence by a woman in Las Vegas.
