Bonnie Mbuli to take on new role

Bonnie Mbuli is set to take on a new role in the drama series, 'Traffic' which is reportedly set to air on etv soon.

Mbuli has appeared in international films including ‘Drum’, ”Catch a Fire’ and an Oscar winning film ‘Invictus’, where she starred alongside Morgan Freeman.

She has also had roles in popular soapies including ‘Rockville’, ‘Backstage’, ‘Home Affairs’ and ‘Soul City’ and the actress, whose career has spanned almost two decades, says the etv project is one of the most “ground breaking” yet.

She plays Detective Lungi Mtaba, who has a series of disappearances in her jurisdiction to deal with, while it appears there is a serial killer on the loose.

“It’s a groundbreaking story and I’m proud to be part of it because it pushes the boundaries. It might be not the first experience, but it’s rare to find a woman being as lead actress for a drama or a thriller in a men dominated industry,” she explains.

“Women normally play supporting roles of their male counterparts in these kinds of series, but Traffic has changed all that.”

“At first the opportunity was scary for me, but because of hard work I managed to push through and adapted.” She adds to SunBuzz.

Bonnie says the role is “easy to believe in”.

“People can relate to it as crime and girls disappear all the time in our country.”

“People are used to seeing men as the main actors in these tough roles, and I’m humbled to be part of it, not only as an actor but also as a game-changing lead actress,” she adds.

‘Traffic’ will air on both e.tv and Ekasi+ on 12 February at 9.30pm.
