Bonang was fired – Metro FM

The 26-year-old radio and TV personality told fans she decided to sever ties with SABC because it would not allow her to work for other stations, TimesLive reported.

The SABC allegedly instructed Matheba to terminate the contract she signed with SuperSport to present SuperSport World Cup Live show.

She had been working for Metro FM as a mid-morning show host for just two months at the time.

On Friday Queen B released a statement on her facebook page announcing the ‘end of the relationship’.

“Metro FM is a fine station and it is a pity that my journey with them has been so short. I am an independent freelancer and have been working peacefully with all broadcasters over the years. My future potential cannot be jeopardised by accepting terms that will not grow my career. I could not agree to the SABC’s blanket terms – in restricting me to work with other broadcasters even though my contract with them was on radio,” Matheba posted.

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago however has accused Matheba of ‘misleading the public’ and said  her contract was terminated with immediate effect after she violated its terms.

“She signed a contract with SuperSport before asking for permission and chose to deny having signed anything with SuperSport on several occasions when we [asked] her about the matter,” said Kganyago.

The broadcaster has apparently been inundated with complaints about Matheba’s sacking.

He said the public should note that all the station’s staff sign a standard contract in terms of which they may work across different platforms and channels – as long as they first get the necessary permission.
