Boity Thulo ‘honoured’ to be part of Marie Claire Naked Issue

Actress and TV presenter Boity Thulo who shared her derriere with the country this week, was honoured but also nervous when approached for the Marie Claire naked campaign shoot.

“I was very nervous because I am only human and baring your all for a nation to see brings about an enormous sense of vulnerability,” said Thulo.

At the same time, I appreciate the fact that Marie Claire have given us the opportunity to be brave and wholeheartedly comfortable in our skins,” she said.

Thulo tweeted a picture this week from the shoot. It received a lot of reaction from the public on social media networks.

In the Marie Claire annual Naked Issue, which was released on Monday, celebrities are only covering their bare essentials.

36 celebrities bared skin for the popular naked issues. Other celebrities included model Lee-Ann Liebenberg, comedians Marc Lottering and Anne Hirsch as well as South African Hip Hop artists Tebogo ‘Proverb’ Thekisho and Siya ‘Slikour’ Metane.

The issue aims to aid The Lunchbox Fund, a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing a daily meal for orphaned or vulnerable school children in disadvantaged areas around South Africa.

The actress said that she had been following the campaign for a couple of years and that she was more than honoured to be a part of it as it helps a charity.

Thulo said that far beyond the opportunity to be featured in the naked edition, it was about the helping the lives of others through creating awareness.

“It is a beautiful campaign that was created to help and better people’s lives- i.e. awareness about the Lunchbox Fund. It’s amazing,” she said.

The Lunchbox Fund was started in 2004 to address the needs of impoverished students at a high school in Soweto, South Africa. Since then the non-profit organisation has grown exponentially feeding kids over 40 different schools in five different provinces in South Africa.

The Lunchbox Fund’s mission is the simple intervention of providing a free and healthy daily meal for orphaned and vulnerable school children in township and rural areas.

The Lunchbox Fund works with wide range of schools and early childhood development centres, providing over a million meals annually.

Celebrities such as musician Hugh Masekela and former Springbok captain Francois Pienaar are part of the Lunch Box Fund’s advisory board.

The organisation also had the opportunity to welcome Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu on board as their newest patron.
