Black Coffee adds spice to Miss SA

It was earlier this year revealed that the longstanding Miss South Africa beauty pageant is being revamped so as to appeal to a younger audience and, in an effort to do so, popular DJ Black Coffee will be sitting on the judging panel.

The 33 semi-finalists for the 2014 pageant were revealed to the public in Johannesburg yesterday, but only twelve of these ladies will be lucky enough to make it through to the finals on 30 March.

The Sowetan reports that Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, met the group of semi-finalists during a workshop earlier this week, where he shared his wisdom about how to deal with being in the public eye.

He also spoke to them about the kind of woman he thinks Miss South Africa should be.

“I’m hoping to find a Basetsana (Kumalo – former Miss SA and now a businesswoman),” he said.

“The kind of girl who will use this as a platform to growing and doing better things like she did.”

With the battle for the much-coveted title now officially underway, a reality show called Road To Miss SA will kick off on DStv on 26 January.
