Billy Ray Cyrus cancels interview after Miley’s MTV performance

Billy Ray Cyrus pulled out of a scheduled interview on 'Piers Morgan Live' on Tuesday night following his daughter Miley Cyrus' controversial performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

Billy Ray Cyrus cancelled his appearance on ‘Piers Morgan Live’ on Tuesday night in the wake of his daughter Miley Cyrus’ controversial MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) performance.

The 52-year-old country singer was scheduled to be interviewed by the British host and was advertised to appear in the show’s opening teaser.

But 15 minutes before the episode was due to end Piers announced Billy Ray would not be appearing.

Piers gave no official reason but joked he did not want to face questions about Miley’s sexually provocative duet with Robin Thicke at the ceremony on Sunday, during which she ‘twerked’ and grinded against his groin in a latex, flesh coloured bikini.

The 48-year-old journalist said: ”Billy Ray was supposed to be on the show tonight to explain his daughter’s behaviour, but … I’m not sure he’s quite worked out what his explanation is yet. So we’ve decided to postpone it. We are going to get the first interview. I know he’s watching tonight, so, Billy Ray, good evening, and when you’re ready, we will talk about this.”

Piers’ guest Morgan Spurlock – who has directed new documentary film ‘One Direction: This Is Us’ – interjected, saying: ”He’s (Billy Ray’s) got some explaining to do!”

Although Billy Ray no-showed on ‘Piers Morgan Live’, he did speak to ‘Entertainment Tonight’ and insisted he couldn’t wait to see his 20-year-old daughter.

The ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer said: ”Of course I’ll always be here for Miley. Can’t wait see her when she gets home. She’s still my little girl and I’m still her dad regardless how this circus we call showbusiness plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change.”
