Despite usually getting mocked in South Africa for either not winning a South African Music Award (Sama) or cheating on his baby-mama Dj Zinhle with television and radio personality Bonang “Queen B’ Matheba, hip-hop “Supa Maga” AKA managed to win a lot of hearts on his trip to the Big Apple.
The rapper, who is now in the home of the Empire State Building, Times Square, and Statue of Liberty, wowed his New York fans with his live performance at the Everyday Afrique event. The muso was given the warm welcome a star deserves, and got most people singing along to his songs and everybody dancing along to his work.
Pleased with himself and happy with his trip and performance, AKA managed to squeeze in some time and shared a few selfies with his enthusiastic fans, despite once taking to Instagram to give his fans some advice about approaching him for a picture. “Don’t take a picture with me, take a picture of me. If take a picture with you, I gotta take a picture with everybody,” he once posted; a quote that is actually attributed to popular American artist R.Kelly.
However AKA didn’t have any issues taking beautiful snaps with his New York fans to capture his time in the big city. The artist further ensured that he shared this trip with his social media followers by posting pictures from the time he was still in the plane, to the time he called home, his performance videos and time spent in the beautiful town, going on to caption one of the amazingly taken snaps as “Supa Mega got a lot of presence,” and another as “Supa Mega, I’m established.”
Despite taking flak these past couple of weeks from his Mzansi supporters and those that don’t support him much, the rapper seems to have impressed a lot of his South African fans with his New York trip. “Talent always prevails. Well done brother,” one tweet read. “Well done to the boy @akaworldwide. Good show brother,” another read. “It’s about time u got verified,” one of his followers commented on Instagram.
