AKA’s Levels goes platinum

The rapper AKA received 4 South African Music Award nominations, of which 2 fall in the category Record of The Year.

Kiernan Forbes, AKA’s second studio album, Levels, has officially been certified Platinum. AKA’s Levels album has gained him a strong following across the African continent, opened up doors for him in the US and the UK and entrenched him as the Most Important Player in the South African music scene.

In 2015, AKA dominated the South Africa radio airways as the most played South African artist with two new single releases that came towards the end of the year. The rapper AKA received four South African Music Award nominations (SAMA 22), two of which fall in the category Record of The Year.

Last month, the rapper celebrated being the first South African musician to gain a million Twitter followers. To add to that, his first performance of new single, One Time, trended on Twitter for a while and was the most watched episode of Live Amp, with the Queen Bonang Matheba presenting the show.

AKA recently hosted the first of a series of planned SupaMega shows, which saw him shut down Zone 6 venue in Soweto. All these come after the AKA Scholarship he also launched this year.

Is it safe to say 2016 is AKA’s year?
