Kiernan “AKA” Forbes has hinted at dropping an album touching on his experience since his late fiancée Anele “Nellie” Tembe’s death.
Speaking on YFM’s breakfast show Y Mornings hosted by DJ Ankletap on Thursday, AKA said people expected his new music to touch on what he went through the last couple of months.
His recent EP You’re Welcome, a collaboration with rapper Costa Titch, has received good reviews from fans. It is up-tempo and perfect for the warmer weather.
“I can’t come out all sad and heavy, let me get the jiggy stuff out the way… Obviously later in the year, my project is still going to come out and then I will deal with all that heavy stuff,” he said.
When asked by Ankletap if his project had a title yet, AKA said it would likely be called Tears Run Dry.
“Thinking of releasing it during Anele’s birthday, 12 October,” he added.
Tembe fell to her death at a hotel during the couple’s trip in Cape Town, where AKA was scheduled to perform.
The rapper back-pedalled earlier this week after media personality Thando Thabethe received criticism for asking about Tembe’s death during their interview on radio station 947.
AKA said he didn’t want to talk about the incident because it wasn’t any of our business.
“It’s something that I am living with in my life,” he said.
AKA later said he felt “triggered” when Thabethe asked the question.
“It’s unfortunate that I felt triggered by the way she asked her questions and I could have handled it better, after all, she’s just doing her job and all that. We have nothing but love for each other and when I’m ready I’ll be back chopping it up with her as always,” he wrote on Instagram.
