After years of living separate lives, Loyiso MacDonald’s wife files for divorce

After living separate lives for five years, Loyiso MacDonald's wife files for divorce.

Actor Loyiso MacDonald’s private life was splashed all over Sunday publications after it was reported that his estranged wife had filed for divorce.

City Press reported that his wife Mthunzi Simphiwe MacDonald approached the Johannesburg High Court last week, claiming that her marriage to the actor was beyond repair and that they are living separate lives.

The couple has reportedly been together for nine years.

Wasn’t Loyiso MacDonald already divorced?

During his interview with MacG on his podcast in October 2020, MacDonald revealed they broke up in 2016 and said the reason was that they married young and they changed as people over time.

MacG asked MacDonald, who referred to Mthunzi as his “ex-wife”, how he met her .

MacDonald answered: “We have not been together since 2016…I was 24 when I got married. I wasn’t in a space where I was sure of myself as a person. I was still trying to figure out a lot of things just about myself, I think she was too…

“The two of us were really becoming adults together when I think about it. Who we ended up becoming, were two people — not who hated each other by the way — who were very different with very different priorities in life and I think that won in the end.”

City Press cited court documents where Mthunzi said there was no reasonable prospect of the restoration of a normal marriage relationship with MacDonald. The documents also revealed the couple have been living in separate homes since February 2017.

When asked for comment, MacDonald’s agent Nashoda Billey said articles of the couple have surfaced for years since their initial break-up.

“We prefer not to comment on such matters. We ask that you respect our client’s privacy in this regard,” she responded.
