Actor Danny Trejo saves baby after car accident in LA

The famously humble actor downplayed his role in the rescue even though witnesses said it was integral.

Anything can happen in Los Angeles and this week has proven it. When a sedan ran a red light and crashed into a Ford Explorer, overturning the SUV, in LA’s Sylmar neighbourhood it was actor Danny Trejo who rushed to the scene to pull a toddler from the wreckage.

“A young lady had to crawl through the window because I couldn’t get the baby out—I couldn’t unbuckle the seat belt,” Trejo told KTLA news. “She got in and undid the seat belt, I pulled the baby out the other side.”

Witnesses on the scene explained that despite the fact Trejo and the woman were able to get the baby out of the car on their own, the boy’s grandmother had to wait for firefighters, who were able to free her using jaws of life.

Making the rescue operation more complex was the fact that the small boy was had special-needs, but Trejo, who works with children with special-needs had this challenge in hand too and used his skills to keep the boy calm while firefighters freed his grandmother.

“He was panicked. I said ‘OK, we have to use our superpowers.’ So he screamed ‘superpowers’ and we started yelling ‘superpowers.’ I said do this, with the muscles. He said ‘muscles,'” Trejo told KABC.

“We got kind of a bond. I kept facing him away from the accident.”

Three people were hospitalised but paramedics said there were no life-threatening injuries.

Trejo, who is famous for playing Machete in a series of Robert Rodriguez films, and who has also appeared in Breaking Bad, and Sons of Anarchy, was humble about his assistance saying, “The only thing that saved that little kid was his car seat, honest to God.”
