WATCH: Karlien van Jaarsveld and family’s tearful goodbye to nanny ‘Bingo’

As a final goodbye van Jaarsveld blessed and washed her nanny’s feet explaining that Jesus did the same thing for his disciples.

Afrikaans singer and songwriter Karlien van Jaarsveld took to social media this week to share her and her family’s final goodbye to their nanny, Bingo, who has decided to retire at the end of the year.

Van Jaarsveld shared an emotional video clip on her Instagram page of Bingo holding her daughter who keeps on asking Bingo why she is going home.

The musician and mother of four is then seen getting onto her knees in front of Bingo, taking her shoes off and placing her feet in a bucket of water. Shen then explains this gesture to Bingo, saying that Jesus also used to wash his disciples’ feet, and so she feels that she needs to do the same for her.

Quoting a bible verse from John 13: “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.  I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”

After reading the bible verse Karlien also tells Bingo: “May the peace of God be with you and may he bless and protect your feet wherever you may go.”

Bingo asks Karlien why she is washing her feet to which the singer responds that she has to give her a proper send off. “You did so much for me and my kids and I am going to miss you so much. I don’t know where I am going to find another good woman like you. I love you so much,” she says as she starts crying during the feet washing ritual.

In her Instagram post, accompanying the video, Karlien wrote how Bingo changed her, her husband Joe, and their children’s lives.

“Bingo is tired and has decided to retire at the end of the year, she is going home. I will never forget how I prayed for you and how you came to me and enriched me and Joe and the children’s lives.

“You were a messenger. You were a grandmother to them and a mother to me. You woke up late at night with me and immediately knew if something was bothering my heart without me having to say anything. You immediately took my hands and prayed for me. You never said no when I asked for your help. You came to teach me about serviceability, and true joy.

“I know how you pray for Elah to be healed. I know you’re praying for the twins’ hearts. I know you pray for your sister Violet’s soft heart and strong hands, and I hope you know I pray for you too. I greet you with eyes full of tears, but with the greatest gratitude in my heart that I was so privileged to be able to walk the path with you. Our bunch are going to miss you VERY MUCH Bingo!”

At the end of the video clip Karlien’s two sons are seen sitting huddled next to each other on the couch crying when their grandma asks them if they are going to miss Bingo as well.
