May 9 marks the 12th anniversary of Mzanzi’s music star Brenda ‘Mabrr’ Fassie’s death.
The legend died in her sleep at Sunninghill Hospital on this date in 2004. Mabrr, who managed to capture the hearts of many South Africans with her music and stage presence, was known for her controversial nature and was regarded by many as a diva, but nonetheless a hit-maker who got many people in Mzansi dancing to her music.
A book about her has recently been published called I’m Not Your Weekend Special by Bongani Madondo. The book has numerous contributors who pay tribute to Mabrrr and trace the highs and lows of her life while celebrating the importance of this South African legend.
You will always be missed, Mabrr.
