Celebs share Mother’s Day wishes

'It’s absolutely great that there is a day to celebrate women,' says Siyabonga Radebe.

On Sunday 8 May, a special celebration is reserved for the woman everybody loves: Mom. Mother’s Day, is a day when these wonderful, loving, compassionate and kind women are honoured. Whether its flowers with cards or social media posts, everyone has a heartfelt message or an inspiring story to share about their mother on this special day.

Some popular DStv personalities shared a few thoughts about Mother’s Day.

“Mother’s Day is a reminder of the incredible work many other women do for society, as well as the  incredible things many women do not only for their own children but for their grandchildren, other people’s children and other people who are in need. I would like to send a big shout out to all women who are there for others. Thank you for your time, love, and much more that you give to those who need it most. I hope you will be looked after by the ones you love” Yolisa Phahle, CEO M-Net.

“For me Mother’s Day is a day to reflect a on a mother’s love and the love from my children. I’m blessed to still have a mother- it’s a day to revive our relationship. I plan on taking my mom to the spa and lunch; we often get so caught up in our day to day living that we often forget to appreciate the little things in life,” Linda Sebenzo who plays Sharon Dlamini in Greed and Desire.

“Of all the roles I play in my life, the role of being a parent is the most important one. I don’t mind if I fail at anything else, but I don’t ever want to fail my child by not being a good mother. To all the mothers in South Africa, my wish is for you to live to see your children grow up,” says Karen Zoid, coach on The Voice SA. Host of the show, Lungile Radu, chimed in: “Happy Mother’s Day to all our beautiful, strong mothers out there. We love and appreciate you.”

“This is a special day for me to celebrate my mother- although I feel it’s a day that should be celebrated every day, mothers are the best gifts in life and all those who are still blessed with mothers should always treasure them. It’s absolutely great that there is a day to celebrate women,” says Siyabonga Radebe who plays Mlungisi in Doubt (airs Mondays at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic channel 161 on DStv).

“Mother’s day is big in my family, my mom passed away 7 years ago so this is the day we spend with family. We reflect and reminisce on the good old days. I will probably spend the day with family and celebrate each other as my sisters and I are all mothers,” says Thembisa Mdoda host of Our Perfect Wedding.

“Mother’s Day to me is a special day where I show my appreciation for the lady that sacrificed a lot for me to be where I am today. My mother, Pinda Ntunja, also taught me a lot about humility and respect for elders and general courtesy. My mother instilled in me that respect for another human being regardless of the race, colour or class is the most important thing. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there,” says Kaunda Ntunja, content producer and anchor of Phaka.
