Care for your pets with Disney Junior Channel

To celebrate the third season of Doc McStuffins on Disney Junior the channel partnered with Roodepoort-based veterinarian Dr Colin van Rensburg of the Radiokop Animal Clinic to present short and concise guide on how children should care for their pets.

Toy doctor, Doc McStuffins, is branching out with a new veterinary practice in her backyard clinic where she’ll treat ill and injured toy animals in the all-new Doc McStuffins: Pet Vet. The new extended show debuted on Disney Junior (DStv Channel 309) last week.

To celebrate the expansion of the series Dr Van Rensburg will share his top tips for children in caring for their pets in special mini-sodes.

“It’s wonderful that this new series of Doc McStuffins: Pet Vet focuses on pet care; pets are an integral part of the family unit, and it’s important that children are taught the correct way to care for their pet dogs, cats, bunnies, hamsters, fish, birds or whatever animals they have from as young an age as possible,” says Dr Van Rensburg.

His helpful hints for kids include what they should give their pets to drink, checking for ticks and fleas, coat care, the importance of exercise, playtime, the right diet (and what not to feed pets), dental hygiene, travelling with pets for the holidays and keeping pets safe from loud noises like thunder and firecrackers over the summer holidays.

On top of teaching kids to care for pets Disney Africa also invited South African publications to paint dog houses which they will be donating to the NSPCA.

Two new Doc McStuffins: Pet Vet mobile experiences have been released in conjunction with the new episodes. The popular Disney Junior Appisodes app for iOS devices features a full Stuffy and Squibbles episode with interactive elements, including the ability to help Doc diagnose and treat Stuffy’s pet Squibbles when he runs low on energy. And a Doc McStuffins: Pet Vet mobile game is available in the Apple App Store. Featuring several mini-games, the app allows players to diagnose and treat pets, as they earn new tools and treats for the pets and special badges for their doctor scrubs.

Parents and care-givers can also log on to the brand new Disney Junior Africa Facebook page (www.facebook.com/DisneyJuniorAfrica) to keep up to date on the very latest from Doc McStuffins and Disney Junior.

Catch all new Doc McStuffins: Pet Vet episodes on Mondays at 0.20am, with repeats at 9.30am, 1pm and 2.45pm.
