Boity shares her views on body shaming

One local star who has had her fair share of body shaming is TV personality Boity Thulo.

The 27-year-old’s curvy figure is often a talking point on social media.

While the comments are mostly positive about her amazing figure, some Internet trolls criticise her for showing too much skin or looking too ‘thick’.

Twitter users photoshopped clothes onto an image of Boity in a sexy swimsuit last month.

Here’s a look at the picture that caused the fuss:

Here’s how Black Twitter responded:

In an interview with Touch HD, Boity says not only big girls are body shamed on social media, but skinny girls also find themselves in the firing line
“Body shaming is not just, being too big or being too skinny, there are also people who want to shame you for being comfortable in your own skin… you’re made to feel bad somehow by people who just don’t like the fact that you’re okay in your body, that you’re okay with being naked or half naked,” she said.

Boity says people who body shame are often just jealous.

“No one should tell you what you should look like at all… you need to understand that it’s just projection, because I don’t think you’ll have the ability to shame someone unless it exists inside of you… It should never be taken personally. It’s just the same with beauty shaming or any form of shaming, it’s just projection because you can’t say something about someone without you feeling it inside of you… whether someone loves you completely, it’s a projection of what they have inside of themselves…” she told the station.

Her body critics can shame her all they want, but Boity won’t change for anyone
After more than seven years in the entertainment industry, the former Club 808 host is still relevant, and she believes it is because she has always remained true to herself.

“I didn’t do the most to convince people that I am who I am. I just remained myself for all these years… I’ve been doing me since the day I got into this industry, I don’t think I’ve ever tried to convince people.”
