Best SA songs of the year 2014

2014 was a good year for music, both locally and internationally.

Below are 10 songs that got South Africans excited, singing along in their cars and dancing whenever and wherever they could.

Refiloe Phoolo  aka Cassper Nyovest is the man of 2014. Well the hip hop man at least. This has been his best ever year as he won big at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2014 by scooping three awards. Nyovest and his ‘girlfriend’, Amanda du Pont confirmed their relationship by kissing at the awards ceremony which put a lot ofrumours to rest. He was also involved in a “beef” situation with fellow rapper, AKA.

Kiernan Forbes aka AKA, has been the daddy of SA hip hop for the past 2 years. He has been releasing hot joints since his first album which did really well. Remember ‘Jealousy’? He then released Levels, which has hit tracks such as All eyes on me and Run Jozi. He won the best hip hop award at the Channel O Music Video Awards 2014. He is also rumoured to be dating DJ Zinhle, but they both continue to deny the rumours.

Ntokozo Mdluli aka K.O. set the standard this year with this mind blowing song which even has the grannies dancing. Everyone relates to this song really well and it even reached more than a million views on Youtube. This is more than a club banger but an all around hit wherever you might be.

This Australian artist has managed to break into the US music scene really well. This song has done really well and she deserves it as the song has even teenagers bumping and grinding to her jams.

Being the oldie that one is, DJ Snake and Lil Jon song was an instant trend all over the world. Many people were crumping to the music and it became an absolute hit of the year. Even when Lil Jon came to SA earlier this year with Talib Kweli, no one at the concert expected him to perform the hit song.

This song blew many people away. When the video came out it shot to the most watched on YouTube in a short time period on YouTube. The way Nicki Minaj gyrates with Drake in the video had many people gobsmacked. Now all the ladies and some men are doing the anaconda dance.

Beyonce continues to have the the music industry in the palm of her hands. She has managed to make every song off her latest album a hit. Even though this song and video were released in 2013, South Africans caught on late to this track. When they did they made no mistake but to bump it hard where ever they heard it and danced even harder to it. Queen B can keep her music coming if this is anything to go by.

Chris Brown featuring most of the clan from the Young Money stable was an absolute genius success. This song is catchy, very club like and had people dancing to it’s tune. A song well done and the lyrics are an absolute hit.

Goldfish has always been the underdog in the SA music scene. It doesn’t have the millions of ratings on Youtube but take a listen to the song and you’ll understand why the song is here.

This video is just for kicks. it already has over 80 000 views on Youtube and has become a club banger and any party track for this December.
