International Grammy award winner Ben Harper is set to wow audiences for one show only in each of three South African cities, alongside the phenomenal Soweto Gospel Choir.
Harper, who was hailed by Rolling Stone as producing, “jewels of unique and exquisitely tender rock & roll,” will be in Durban at the Zakifo music festival on June 1, in Cape Town at the Grand West Casino on June 4 and at the Sun Arena at Times Square, on June 6.
The collaboration with the multi-Grammy award winning locals is set to be perfect for Harper who says he grew up on “a heavy diet of gospel, folk and blues”. The occasion will also mark only the second performance on home soil for the Soweto Gospel Choir since they won their third Grammy (for the “Best World Music album”) in February and as such is a rare, and special moment on its own.
This will be the latest in a long line of top collaborations for the local group who have also shared the stage with hitmakers including U2, Stevie Wonder, Robert Plant, Celine Dion, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh Groban and the late Aretha Franklin.
Tickets are priced from R195 per person at www.howler.co.za/BenHarper
