Ben Affleck unfazed by Batman criticsm

Ben Affleck isn’t fazed by criticism of his Batman casting. The ‘Argo’ filmmaker has developed a thick skin over time due to countless snubs from film critics, so claims to have taken the uproar over his casting as the caped crusader in Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ sequel on the chin.

Speaking on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’, Ben laughed: “I’m a big boy. If I can handle an Emmy snub, I can handle anything. I handle s**t, you know what I mean? I’m very tough.

“So I saw the announcement, I look at the first comment and it’s like, ‘Ben Affleck is going to be Batman’ and the first one goes, ‘Noooooooo!’ ” The 41-year-old actor who has long been a fan of the DC Comics character revealed Warner Bros. bosses scheduled a meeting with him to put his mind at ease and advise him to ignore the negative comments.

He said: “The people from the studio were like ‘We’re thrilled… and listen we want to talk to you because people go through this process and it can be a little trying.’ “They said, ‘We want to show you some of the reactions that past cast members have got on the internet.’ ”

Batman was most recently played by Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, and Affleck joked he wasn’t the first incarnation of the role to receive over-the-top responses like, “Kill him!”

He added: “Zack [Snyder] has this incredible take on it… he wants to do something different but still in keeping with [previous films].” Affleck will star alongside Henry Cavill as Superman in the blockbuster ‘Man of Steel’ sequel, which is due for release in 2015.
