South African Kwaito and Gospel musician Zwai Bala’s brand is growing from strength to strength.
Season 1 of his family reality tv show The Bala Family, which premiered on Mzansi Magic on 20 April, was a resounding success, with episodes topping the social media trends lists weekly and viewers expressing their eagerness for Season 2.
The Bala Family reality tv show was described by M-Net local entertainment channels director, Shirley Adonisi as “a powerful reminder of how families can come together to overcome obstacles and create something meaningful”.
The reality show has resonated well with the viewing public as it anchors on five pillars: healing is a journey, healing can be messy, support for loved ones is crucial, never giving up on that support and appreciating siblings can be different, with their own aspirations. Differences should be welcomed in families.

Zwai announced the establishment of ‘Bala Voices Vocal Hub’, in a statement earlier this week.
In collaboration with his sister, Thozama ‘Pinky’ Bala, the project aims to blend their distinct Afro-sound with contemporary influence fused with Gospel. It also focuses on providing opportunities for aspiring singers from South Africa‘s diverse communities.
Recognising the immense talent that exists, Zwai has committed himself to help them shine and kickstart their musical careers by establishing the First-Class African Vocal Performance Program.
With Pinky’s directorship, promising singers will undergo specialised training under Zwai’s guidance using state-of-the-art techniques designed to propel these exceptional artists into sustainable careers in the music world.
Speaking about his latest venture, Zwai said: “This is an exciting time for me. Along with my sister, we are finally ready to set up the development and training of exceptionally talented singers, who will be part of Bala Voices. We aim to empower through the gift of music while simultaneously working on our own musical creations.”
