The Blackish star will be hosting the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA). The event will be held in Durban on Saturday 18th July at the Durban International Convention Centre.
“I’m so looking forward to my first trip to Durban and honoured for the hosting of MAMA 2015 on Nelson Mandela’s birthday – it’s going to be awesome!” Anderson said in a statement.
Speculations were rife that our very own Trevor Noah would be hosting the show since it was announced that he would be taking over The Daily Show from September – giving him the international appeal that the MAMA organisers seem to need from their hosts.
Last year’s host, Marlon Wayans, was criticised on social media for not being able to pronounce the names of the performers and nominees and for making offensive jokes about Africa.
But VIMN’s managing director, Alex Okosi, is confident about this year’s host. “Funny, charismatic and engaging, Anthony is guaranteed to make MAMA 2015 a memorable event thanks to his unique presence
and boundless energy.”
