Another Grammy nomination for LBM

With sixteen nominations under their belt, the group has received a seventeenth Grammy nomination for Best World Music album, for their latest offering, ‘Live: Singing for Peace Around the World’.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo has always had close ties with late President Nelson Mandela who, shortly after his release from prison, pronounced them cultural ambassadors for South Africa.

As the world mourns Madiba, LBM left a heartfelt tribute to the revered icon on their Facebook page, calling on all people to “re-dedicate ourselves to Nelson Mandela and his dream of a Rainbow Nation, a Rainbow World, in fact”.

They also plan to “host a BIG Birthday celebration for Madiba” on his birthday next year, when they will be in London.

Wrote the group: “Don’t know where or with who yet but we will invite many BIGS to join us. Yes!! A Celebration for Nelson Mandela on his Birthday July 18th in London!!”

Of their sixteen Grammy nominations, LBM have won three, the first for Best Folk Album in 1988, for the Paul Simon-produced ‘Shaka Zulu’.
