Now that she seems to have settled into her job as a reality star, Annie Mthembu from The Real Housewives of Durban seems to be taking a different approach to her stardom.
She is opening up more about her life both on the show and in interviews, the most recent being her chat with Lungelo KM of the Engineer Your Life podcast/show where she spoke about her marriage, her work and her spirituality among other things.
Early on in the interview, Annie touched on the way their relationship began, reminding viewers that she was indeed his personal assistant (PA) and claimed that neither of them were romantically interested in one another.
Annie (whose maiden surname is Ludick) said that she believes that he saw a wife in her after noting how well they worked together.
“When he saw that I was adding a lot of value, he started to value me”
Past toxic relationships
She said that she was apprehensive to date him at first because she had seen a lot as his PA. She said she had also just come out of a “horrible” five-year relationship which Kgolo had known her through, adding that the relationship put her off dating.
Recalling her friendship with Kgolo ‘Da Guru’ Mthembu, Annie revealed that she confided in him about her toxic relationship after breaking down in tears at work. She said the toxicity of her relationship started to affect her work and said that Kgolo helped free her from that situation.

One of the ways he did so was by helping her get a place to stay to enable her to be able to leave the relationship since she relied a lot on her ex.
On the topic of cheating, Annie Mthembu recalled a past conversation with the other cast members of The Real Housewives of Durban about her marriage. This was when the other ladies were trying find out if Annie’s husband was faithful after she mentioned that they “had been through a lot” together.
She then explained that what they had been through was what she put him though due to the defensive behaviours she had learned from her past relationship where her ex cheated on her a lot.
Annie then shared that Kgolo was 11 years older than her and, therefore, very mature and said she had some growing up to do in order to match his approach to their relationship.
The reality star said that Kgolo also mentored her in business and helped her focus her own efforts to build her businesses.
“He really helped mould me into the boss b***ch you see before you.”
In addition to her dancing and promotions company and her aesthetic salon, Annie also runs an agency with her sister and the agency recently put together the screening event for Thado Thabethe’s new reality show.
On marriage and God
“Before I started dating him (her husband), I was scared of God… I know, it’s such a strange thing… Uhm, I had an abortion and that abortion made me ashamed to the point where, I couldn’t walk into church without crying, I couldn’t face God, I didn’t want to talk to him,” she revealed in a conversation about religion.
Annie then spoke about her husband and how spiritual he is as well as how his spirituality affected their relationship.

She said that Kgolo led her back to God after a period of not knowing where she stood with her religion. This is also after a devout Catholic upbringing,
“Now, it’s really what holds me together.”
‘I wouldn’t hang out with these women’
Annie then burst the bubble of fans who think the ladies may hang out in real life by stating that she does not hang out with any of the women on the show when they’re not filming.
She spoke about them like colleagues in that she said they only spend time with each other when the show demands it.
