On September 18, South Africans will have the opportunity to fall in love with actress Sofia Carson in her debut film role as Evie, the Evil Queen's daughter in Descendants.

The made-for-TV movie catapulted her into the limelight in America after it premiered last month. With the African release next month, it won’t be long before she becomes a darling here, too.
How would you describe your new movie?
Descendants is an action-packed, drama-filled and music-driven film that introduces the children of four iconic Disney villains. The film follows the journey of these four villain kids in their epic battle between good and evil.
What character do you play in the movie?
I play Evie, the daughter of the fabulously evil Evil Queen from Snow White. Being her mother’s daughter, Evie was raised to believe that what defined her was her reflection in the mirror. The Evil Queen also taught Evie that a prince was her only chance for a happy ending. Not knowing any better, Evie believed her mother. So, her goal in life became simply to be beautiful in order to be worthy of a prince. But, as you will see in the movie, there is far more to Evie than meets the eye.
How does it feel to be working on a huge movie project like Descendants? It is a dream come true. I still pinch myself every morning because I can’t believe that it is actually happening. I feel so honoured to be a part of this project and so immensely thankful to be able to tell Evie’s story.
What else are you working on?
I just finished shooting my second film with Disney Channel, Further Adventures in Babysitting, alongside the amazing Sabrina Carpenter. It is a reboot of the 1980s classic Adventures in Babysitting. The movie is set to premiere in 2016. A few months ago, I was signed and have begun work on my album. Music is my first love. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve dreamt of one day being lucky enough to share my music with the world. I am so happy to be writing and creating music for this album. It has been an incredibly exciting year and I feel so thankful.
How difficult is it working on a music career as well as your acting?
It is hard work, but it is work that I adore. I am lucky enough to do what I love for a living.
Do you write your own music?
I do. .I’ve been writing since I was 10-years-old. I write in both English and Spanish.
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy reading a book, or writing a song. My favourite thing to do on a Friday night is to go to the movies with my sister or with friends.
