A bouquet-holding groom on Our Perfect Wedding

In last night’s episode of Our Perfect Wedding, we met Nokuthula and Edwin.

The couple met about six years ago when both of them were active members of their church youth committee.

Edwin, however, was not just active in the committee, he was also active in looking for a wife. Nokuthula at the time did not even notice the poor guy was interested in her. You cannot blame the lady though, she had a lot of male friends, so she probably thought he was just being friendly.

Edwin made his move, but feared that one of Nokuthula’s male friends would beat him to taking her hand in marriage.

I think I need to clear something to our brothers; when she agrees to go out with you, it doesn’t mean she did not have other options. She probably had a long list to pick from, but she chose you. If those other guys did not make it before you, they won’t make it now that you’re there.

Edwin had to work hard to get her because he knew she wanted to get married by the age of 25. One more pointer to our brothers; we choose you way before you put together fancy words to “convince” us to go out with you. Of course I’m not speaking for all ladies.

So, let’s talk about the wedding.

The bride’s hairstylist made a mistake somewhere. I’m not sure what it’s called, but that’s one of the hairstyles that should not be repeated. I loved the bride’s wedding dress; she knew what would suit her body and went for it.

Not too sure about the groom’s suit though, perhaps I need some fashion tips but that purple shirt?

The decor was simple, not too many colours mixed together, and the centre pieces also were the simplest I’ve seen on OPW, except for the episode where auntie did everything for the couple, those were non-existent. Remember?

The wedding cake? Simple and beautiful. I loved it. And, it wasn’t falling, for once, so kudos to the baker.

One of the things that make South Africa beautiful is its diverse cultures. The Ndebele outfits were amazing. It’s always the case with Our Perfect Wedding, the brides might get everything else wrong but never the traditional attires. Beautiful. How many times did the bride change outfits? Anyway, last night’s outfits were colourful, but beautiful.

We always seemed to get the colour-blocking trend wrong, remember that trend that got most people looking like traffic lights? Somehow, when it is a traditional outfit, it always works.

One thing I did not understand however, was why the groom was holding the bouquet, the 50/50 rule, possibly?

And then the speeches came, there is always someone who says something awkward or funny. One of the speakers said, and I quote: “Mr Chiloane (groom), when that ball hits the net, the net had better move to show it is a goal.” I have no idea what this means, anyone care to translate that into simple English?

Did you think this was a perfect wedding?
