Precious joins Plein Street

South African model Precious Makgaretsa will soon be on small screen around the country when she makes her debut in the new season of '90 Plein Street'.

Although she’s generally known for her successful career as a model, Makgaretsa’s role in Season 4 of the political drama series is her third big acting role, but she says this role as community organiser Lerato Maduna is “intense”.

Speaking to Sunday World, the 28-year-old also said she didn’t just stumble into acting, but explained that it’s something she’s always been interested in.

“It’s my third big (acting) role and it’s emotionally draining,” she said.

“It’s serious and quite academic where politics is concerned. And because politics is quite complex, I had to do a lot of groundwork, read the constitution and generally learn how politics works in order to deliver.

“I’ve wanted it for a long time. I didn’t start modelling then came across acting. My eight years of modelling just brought me closer to my goal because it’s also performance-based. So I had to be ready to own that world to be able to say: ‘This is what I want.”

The news season of ’90 Plein Street’ kicks of on SABC2 at 9:30pm on Tuesday, 10 December.
