11th Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards entries officially open: Here’s what to look out for

The entries for this year’s edition of Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards are officially opened.

Returning for the 11th year, the awards will honour people who made their mark in the comedy industry in 2022.

Entries are open for all 12 categories, namely: Savanna Newcomer Award, Breakthrough Act of the Year Award, Headliner of the Year Award, Comedian of the Year Award, Best Solo Show Award, Best Comedy Festival/Show Award. The Joe Mafela Award, The Hall of Fame Award, Best Comedic Writer Award, UpLIFTing Comedic Content Award presented by LIFT, Sauce of the Year Award and Funny Is Funny Award.

How to enter for the 11th Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards

Candidates are advised to visit www.comicschoice.com to enter. Entries for the Savanna Newcomer Award will close on 9 November, while entries for all other categories close on 12 December.

The winners will be announced at the main awards event in April 2024 in Johannesburg.

Last year, comedians like Nonto R walked away with more than one award. She scooped the Breakthrough Act of the Year Award and the Joe Mafela Award.

Robby Collins took home top honours, including the coveted Comedian of the Year Award, while Wazi M Kunene scooped the Savanna Newcomer Award.

With a legacy of over a decade, the Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards recognises and honours the comedic talents that have given the nation endless moments of joy and laughter.

The awards were established to bolster the comedy sector and endeavour to ensure the SA comedy scene is robust and globally competitive.
