Perdeberg Cellar scoops two trophies at The 2021 Young Wine Show

Perdeberg Cellar in Paarl is thrilled to take home two trophies at The Young Wine Show this year.  The annual show for wines of the current vintage year took place in  August 2021, and were presented by the SA National Wine Association (SANWSA) in collaboration with Agri-Expo. 

Having been in existence for 189 years in 2021, the Show is steeped in history and well regarded in the industry. 

Perdeberg Cellar received two National Champion Trophies for the following wines: 

• Perdeberg Chenin Blanc Natural Sweet White Wine
• Perdeberg Malbec (Other Red Wine Cultivar)

Albertus Louw, Cellar Master at Perdeberg Group says The Young Wine Show is part of the heritage of the South African wine industry as the oldest wine competition. “These results are an indication of the quality of the vintage and we have great expectation of these wines to be bottled at a later stage.  Winning two National Champions is a great achievement for us as we were the only producer to achieve this for 2021.”

The chairperson of the Young Wine Show, Christo Pienaar, went on to say that the quality of the young wines judged had overall been of a very good standard and consumers can look forward to many excellent wines from the 2021 vintage year. “I am excited with the results of the winners of the SA Champion wines from all over the country’s wine producing areas, as well as the diverse types of wineries.”

The almost 50 judges on 13 panels scrutinised the 1 162 entries subject to the most stringent Covid-19 protocols, which comply with world standards, at Nederburg in Paarl at the end of July.
