UPTON’S NATURALS AND INFINITE FOODS BRING PLANT-BASED BACON AND CHORIZO TO SOUTH AFRICAN SHORES

Consumers can now get creative with all their favourite meals using the Upton’s Natural Bacon, Chorizo or Traditional Seitan products now available in South Africa.

Infinite Foods, Africa’s premier go-to-market platform for leading plant-based food brands, has announced that plant-based meat alternative company, Upton’s Naturals, has become the latest addition to join its plant-based foods offering with their Seitan Bacon, Chorizo Crumbles and Traditional Chunks.

Upton’s Naturals is an independently owned natural foods company, founded by Daniel Staackmann, a pioneer behind flavoured wheat-based Seitan that is dedicated to using simple ingredients in their plant-based meat products. The Upton’s Naturals products can be enjoyed on the menu at Infinite Café, Infinite Foods’ flagship restaurant or on the eCommerce site at www.infinitefoods.com/shop  for R89 per box or R529 for a case of six.

There is currently a launch sale on the Upton’s Natural products now through the end of January for 10% off.

“As global recognition of the health and environmental impact of red meat increases, so is the need for great-tasting plant-based alternatives. African consumers are becoming conscious of the impact their food choices have on their health and the environment, but the products have to taste and perform great for consumers to switch,” said Michelle Adelman, CEO of Infinite Foods.

“We are excited to include Upton Natural’s meat-free products to our portfolio to give South Africans another delicious meat alternative they can crave.”

Upton’s Natural plant-based bacon, chorizo crumbles and traditional chunks have delicious porky taste and meaty texture (or extra crispy for bacon), they are non-GMO, kosher, high in protein, low in fat and with zero cholesterol, unlike animal-based meat.

The main ingredient in these products is seitan (pronounced say-tan) which is made from wheat protein with an impressive texture and robust flavour. Seitan is a centuries old technique stemming from ancient Japanese culinary traditions and is all-natural.

The Upton’s plant-based Chorizo crumbles are perfect on tacos, nachos, pasta or your favourite breakfast scramble. Everyone’s favourite, Bacon, can easily be incorporated into your favourite dishes such as salads, pasta, and pizzas or as a breakfast side. Or for a recipe that requires whole muscle cuts, the Traditional Chunks easily take on seasoning and flavour of the dish. The possibilities are endless with Upton’s range.

“We are very excited to be able to bring our Seitan range to the South African market. We are looking forward to growing the plant-based food movement throughout the continent,” commented Daniel Staackmann, Founder of Upton’s Naturals.

Upton’s Natural will be joining the ranks of fellow plant-based brands like Beyond Meat, JUST Egg, Miyoko’s Creamery, Oatly and local handcrafted kombucha, Happy Culture within Infinite Foods brand portfolio.

Infinite Foods’ brands extend to over 1,300 retail and foodservice outlets across South Africa, Mauritius, Botswana, and Kenya.
