New Generations cast revealed (gallery)

Since auditions in August, Generations’ production company MMSV have been working around the clock to revamp South Africa’s foremost soap and ratings juggernaut for the national broadcaster’s SABC1.

The auditions followed the sacking of 16 of the show’s main cast members after disputes about their salaries, working hours and general treatment led them to strike – demanding better pay and a larger share in the show’s profits.

Only Connie Ferguson as Karabo Moroka, Andisiwe Dweba as Getty and Rapulana Seiphemo as Tau Mogale remained after the production company decided to cull the characters portrayed by the striking actors. The show was also pulled from the air at the end of September.

The empty spots left by the striking actors meant a few well known faces from other soaps have jumped ship to star in the revamped soap.

New stars joining Ferguson, Seiphemo and Dweba are Letoya Makhene as Tshidi. The singer and actress have had stints on Rhythm City and Isidingo.

Her inclusion seems to bode well, with numerous twitter users praising her inclusion in the new show.

Well known stage actor Moopi Moothibeli will be joining the cast as Smanga.

Musa Ngema who had stints on 7de Laan and Rhythm City is joining the cast as a new character Mazwi.

Other new faces include Thulisile Phongolo as Namhla and Vuyo Dabula as Gadaffi.

Ivy Nkutha is set to play gog’Flo. Nkutha’s starred in shows such as 90 Plein Street, City Ses’la and Abo Mzala.

The new cast includes a few returning characters with Denise Zimba returning as Mary. She’s joined by Ronnie Nyakale, who is back as his character Cosmo for the revamped show.
