You may never think that it will happen to you or your business … until it does.
How can you keep your personal data safe online as it becomes more valuable?
Consider a confidential storage system
If you own a business, you handle confidential information on a daily basis. This information is not 100% secure when it is stored on your computer and in a file on your desk – you need a back-up plan. Protect your and your client’s sensitive documents by using a confidential storage system. The Document Warehouse offers their clients secure storage vaults that are protected in the event of a fire, theft or other damage and are especially designed to store highly confidential material and other high-value items. These include and are not limited to DVDs, title deeds, and any other documents that should be kept long-term or require long-term preservation.
Browse secure sites only
If a website requires you to add your personal information or visit their shop online, before entering personal information into a website check the top left of the browser first. If the URL starts with “HTTPS,” and has a lock symbol next to it, then the website is secure. Read through their privacy policy as well if you are still unsure. Once you’ve completed the necessary checks, you can add your personal information.
Do not use the same password for every login
It may be convenient enough to keep the same password for every website, however, this poses a threat to your security, making it easy for hackers to steal your information. When hackers find username and password combinations from one source, they test them elsewhere. They could try to log into banking websites with the same username and password combination.
Set up a two-factor authentication
It’s not always fun to log in twice, however, two-factor authentication gives you an added layer of security when logging in to your accounts. Enable it for every account that uses your or your company’s personal information, especially sensitive information stored.
Use free Wi-Fi with caution
With more people enjoying the option of working remotely, you may find that you frequently connect to public Wi-Fi networks, especially if you work from malls and restaurants. However, these free networks do not have strong security measures in place and are used by many different people every day. This makes it easier for other people who use the same network to gain access to your activity. If you are going to use online banking or make a purchase online, rather wait until you are home or have access to a secure, password-protected network.
Protect yourself and your business from online predators who are waiting for their next victim to hack. Contact the Document Warehouse to safely store your company’s data, allowing you easy access anywhere in the world and giving you peace of mind.
