Matric class of 2022: Want to be rich? Here are the highest-paying jobs in SA

The world is your oyster and you can become just about anything you set your mind to. Why not be a millionaire?

You’ve just completed your matric and received your results. You’ve done as well as you thought you would. Suddenly, the world is your oyster as you decide what you will do for the rest of your life. One thing you don’t want to keep doing is hustling your way through life. You want to make it, and make it big as fast as you can.

Here are some of the jobs you may want to consider steering your career towards, that will help you become a millionaire quite quickly in life.

Specialist doctor

If saving humanity from disease and illness is your sort of thing, then maybe a career in medicine is one for you. The pay is certainly not bad at all. According to GrabJobs.co, doctors who specialise in a certain area earn around R1.600,000 per year. But, just remember, you may have to spend more than 10 years of your life studying, and even more to specialise.

Actuarial Scientist

Yes, this is definitely one high-paying job, but also one of the hardest to study for. GrabJobs states that actuarial scientists earn around R920,000 per year. Also, most students take more than ten years to become an actuary.

Judge

If you like listening to people’s problems, and reading through pages and pages worth of case studies, then this one is definitely for you. Judges in South African earn around R825,000 per year. It all starts with a law degree though, which is around 4 to 5 years. After that, it all boils down to more studying and experience.

Chief Financial Officer

This is definitely one of those plush, cushy titles – and one you will want to have on your business card. CFOs earn around R780,000 per year. First you are going to need a bachelor’s degree in finance and extensive experience. To be honest, a master’s degree won’t really hurt either.

Architect

Being creative and precise may leave you feeling like you want to explore the idea of becoming an architect. Well, we can tell you that the salary isn’t all that bad either. Architects in South Africa earn around R715,000 per year

Chartered Accountant

This too is one of those plush titles. CAs in South Africa earn around R605,000 per year. The studies aren’t all that brutal either. You will need to study for a BCom degree and then after this, a CTA or BCom (Honours) Accountancy or equivalent accredited degree.

Engineer

How do you know if someone is an engineer? Generally, they tell you. And why wouldn’t they – it was certainly a battle and a half to become one. But when you look at your paycheck at the end of all of it, R572,000 per year isn’t all that bad to behold. Just make sure you love maths though. Engineering degrees are generally 4 years long, but those who are brave enough to venture into it, generally take a little longer to complete it.
