Slight downward trend for November consumer price inflation

Stats SA on Wednesday morning revealed that the annual consumer price inflation (CPI) dipped slightly, from 7.6% in October to 7.4% in November.

It was at 7.5% in September.

Increases

According to the latest findings, food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 12.5% year-on-year, and contributed 2.1 percentage points to the total CPI annual rate of 7.4%.

Housing and utilities also increased by 4.3% year-on-year, and contributed 1.1 percentage points. 

In October, housing and utilities increased by 4.3% year-on-year.

Transport increased by 15.3% year-on-year, and contributed 2.2 percentage points. 

Statisticians also reported that miscellaneous goods and services increased by 4.8% year-on-year, and contributed 0.7 of a percentage point.

In November, the annual inflation rate for goods was 10.4%, down from 10.5% in October.

For services it was 4.5%, down from 4.6% in October.

In October, the annual inflation rate for goods was 10.5%, down from 10.7% in September, while for services it was 4.6%, up from 4.3% in September.
