The same auction also yielded a bid of R680 000 for a Vincent Black Comet, also from the 1950s.
But the last few years has seen a slight drop in interest from collectors wanting to sell but fearing they won’t get the kind of prices befitting concourse cars and the like.
That, unfortunately, is just an unavoidable consequence of current market conditions.
However, with Alan Hogg, Consolidated’s classics expert, still plugging away, and the ever-intrepid Chico da Silva raising the gavel on September 20, owners of golden oldies can rely on getting good prices for their precious metal.
Consolidated still holds the record for pulling the most people to a classic car auction – well over 1 000 at one of its quarterly Saturday sales.
In the meantime, the company is planning a show stopper of a sale for Krugersdorp on September 11 when, in conjunction with Africor Auctioneers, they will dispose of a multipurpose shopping centre, including a range of machinery and miscellaneous assets.
The double bill dynamic disposal will commence with the sale of a 20 215m2 property.
Described as a multi-tenanted commercial outlet situated on a busy road, namely 16 Kalk Street, investors can expect top-yielding returns.
The versatility of the property becomes apparent when considering the diversity of its mainly commercial make-up: a bottle store, garage, hardware store, carwash, office, retail space, staff room, storage capacity, staff canteen, supermarket, kiosk and workshops.
The office, staff rooms and canteen are the smallest units of all, sized at just under 100m2 each, with everything else shaping up to well over a 100m2 each.
One of the workshops, for example, is 755m2.
The others are 230m2, 395m2 and 423m2 each.
Following the property sale, movables that include 6×4 and 4×2 mechanical horses and an assortment of trucks ranging from rigids to volume, drop-side and crane trucks, tippers, side-trailers and loggers go under the hammer.
