The budget speech that the minister of finance was supposed to deliver in parliament on Wednesday afternoon has been postponed to 12 March because the parties in the government of national unity (GNU) could not agree on increasing VAT.
While everybody was waiting for Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana to arrive, National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza informed the meeting that the Budget 2025 speech will be postponed because the parties in the GNU could not agree on an alleged increase in value added tax (VAT) of 2%.
