Buckle up, old timer

The 1998 Bentley Turbo, number 237 of 252, is a shining example of upper-crust distinction and decidedly a cut above the rest.

That it’s still the preferred car for Queen Elizabeth II says something about Bentley of course, and some might even say that it’s what makes these cars so good, if not great.

In comparison the 2009 Backdraft Cobra 460 V8 is pure “badness”.

Brash and barely able to contain its own explosive power under layers of chrome and silver trimmings, it’s like an American El Toro held down with chains, ready to break loose.

And then there’s the ’28 Farmall F20 tractor which some might say, in comparison to the Bentley and the Backdraft, is an ugly little chugger from the country.

But beauty at this auction is in the eye of the bidder and Consolidated knows how to bring the best to collectors.

Many might prefer a true classic, pre World War I in fact, like the 1913 Buick Coupé. For a brass-era centenarian this old-timer is in fine fettle and serves as a beautiful pre-cursor to its post-vintage era same-marque companions, a ’57 Century Coupé and a ’69 Riviera.
