Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has referred a controversial coal supply agreement between Eskom and Gupta-owned Tegeta Exploration and Resources to the Special Investigative Unit (SIU), MPs heard on Tuesday morning.
The minister appeared before the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) in parliament, along with the power utility’s CEO, Brian Molefe, and board chairperson Ben Ngubane to brief MPs on contracts between Eskom and Tegeta.
Last Thursday, Brown announced a full-scale probe by the SIU and a retired judge into all seven reports emanating from previous investigations into Eskom’s affairs, including the parastatal’s coal-procurement processes and former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s state capture report.
