Brown announces new Eskom board

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown on Friday announced the new Eskom board tasked with turning around the struggling state-owned power utility.

The minister has retained Eskom’s interim board chairperson Zethembe Khoza. He will continue in his position until the utility holds its annual general meeting next year.

The new board members include:

The embattled power utility, which is at the centre of a state capture probe by a parliamentary committee, has come under intense public scrutiny over the past few months over executives and board members allegedly favouring the Gupta family when dishing out multimillion-rand contracts.

Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba during his medium-term budget policy statement in October warned the heavily indebted Eskom defaulting on its loans was the single biggest risk to the South African economy.
