Suzanne Daniels supports Corruption Watch application against former Eskom board

The whistleblower's life was turned into hell by the parastatal.

Former head of legal and compliance at Eskom Suzanne Daniels has thrown her weight behind Corruption Watch’s delinquency application against some former Eskom board members.

“Corruption Watch, in the wake of longstanding poor governance at Eskom, has launched an application in the High Court in Pretoria to have former Eskom board members declared delinquent,” said Corruption Watch executive director David Lewis yesterday.

“The application, which is brought in the public interest in terms of section 157(1)(c) of the Companies Act 71 of 2008, focuses on the violation of fiduciary duties and gross negligence on the part of former board members and was served on … Eskom Holdings SOC Limited, Mark Vivian Pamensky, Anoj Singh, Brian Molefe, Venete Jarlene Klein, Zethembe Wilfred Khoza and former minister of public enterprises Lynne Brown.”

Daniels said in her affidavit she had decided to support the application as it was “in the public interest that those individuals most responsible for the events set out in Lewis’ affidavit should be held accountable for their actions. They should also be prevented from repeating their misconduct at other companies, particularly at state-owned enterprises (SOE)”.

Lewis added that SOEs had been at the centre of the state capture conspiracy.

“Instead of protecting the interests of the company, Eskom’s erstwhile directors have abetted the looting of the entity,” said Lewis. “We are determined there should be consequences for their conduct. This application is one way of exacting those consequences and in ensuring they are not afforded another opportunity to conduct themselves in a similar fashion elsewhere.”
