Mark Lamberti resigns as CEO of Imperial Holdings

This follows a high court judgment that found him guilty of discrimination after he referred to an employee as a 'female employment equity candidate'.

Imperial Holdings said on Wednesday it had accepted the resignation of group chief executive Mark Lamberti with effect from April 30.

“This development arises from the recent judgment in which the high court found in favour of an ex-employee and against AMH, Imperial and Mr Lamberti regarding a series of incidents which commenced in 2014,” it said.

Last week, he resigned from his position as a director on the Eskom board following judgment by the North Gauteng High Court, which found him guilty of discrimination after he referred to an employee as a “female employment equity candidate”.

Lamberti later apologised for the transgression.

On Monday, Lamberti resigned from the board of Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA). He was BLSA’s longest serving director, and has a strong track record of contribution, both to the various businesses he has led and to the country.

In a statement, BLSA said its members were committed to playing their part in creating a South Africa of increasing prosperity for all and to delivering economic growth, transformation and inclusion, among others, by encouraging and empowering senior black leadership.

BLSA said its members would take important lessons from the incident on how to better manage transformation in the vital interests of the country.
