Senescence ready to open her Fairview account

Senescence more than paid her way when she was with Sean Tarry on the Highveld, delivering 18 cheques in her starts for the multiple champion trainer.

But she never quite fulfilled high early expectations and was recently sold and transferred to the care of another champ, Gavin Smith in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The five-year-old mare’s love of galloping would seem to make her a perfect Fairview horse and she could open her coastal account on the course’s Polytrack on Friday.

Senescence goes in Race 7, a FM66 Handicap over 2000m, with yet another champ, Warren Kennedy, in the irons.

Her final run on the Highveld was a victory at the Vaal Classic over 1800m and she nearly backed it up on her PE debut – going down by just 0.60 lengths over 2000m on the Poly, running on a smidgeon too late.

She was backed that day and a lot of people will be keen to recoup their outlay.

The winner of the race, Silvia Lousie, re-opposes and is a decent sort who could prove a bother in the finish. But there is a 1kg weight swing, which, along with greater familiarity with her surroundings, should see Senescence through.

She looks one of the better bets on a thorny card and could be an exotic bets banker.

Opulence in the second race is probably the day’s standout, but falls outside the Pick 6.
